Browlift

Brow Lift

Am I a good candidate for this surgery?

If you are bothered by expression lines or other signs of aging in the brow region, a brow lift may be right for you.   A brow lift minimizes the creases that develop across the forehead, or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes.  It improves what are commonly referred to as frown lines.  But what it does mostly is elevate the brow and eyebrows, lifting, gently arching the eyebrows, and repositioning a low or sagging brow that is so hooding the upper eyelid that one looks stern, angry, or tired. It raises the eyebrow to a more alert and youthful position.

What is the surgery?

This procedure can and is often done in conjunction with eyelid surgery, facelift, midface lifts, and skin resurfacing techniques.
One brow lift technique is the coronal brow lift.  The coronal brow lift can pinpoint specific regions of the brow to correct.  This technique involves an incision from ear to ear, lifting the forehead and removing excess skin from the scalp.
A brow lift today is frequently done using an endoscope and special instruments placed through small incisions made within the hairline.   This endoscopic brow lift leaves several, albeit, smaller incisions hidden in the temporal and frontal hairlines. The incisions from the brow lift are concealed within the hair. Another variation is the limited incision brow lift.  The surgery takes one hour, is done with a general anesthetic, and is frequently combined with other facial surgeries.

What does it not do?

It does not correct any aging changes in the lower face and neck. It is not a substitute for a limited or more traditional facelift.  It corrects only a little of the loose draping skin in the upper eyelid. Sometimes a conservative upper eyelid blepharoplasty helps improve the overall result of a brow lift.

What can I expect afterwards?

Recovery time varies but most patients will take 1-1/2 weeks to 2 weeks from work.   Full exercise resumes after 6 weeks.  General anesthesia is used so one would need a caregiver for a minimum of 24 hours after surgery but most people have someone with them for 2-3 days.
