Facelift

Am I a good candidate for a facelift?

If you are bothered by the signs of aging in your face, a facelift may be right for you.  Technically known as rhytidectomy, a facelift is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck.  There are many, many different types of modern face lifting approaches and operations.  Each variation is geared towards the patient’s unique needs and anatomy.  This procedure is often done with other facial surgeries like eyelid surgery, brow lifts, fillers and resurfacing.  A facelift is a good option if you do not smoke and are physically healthy.

What is the surgery?

Depending on the degree of change you would like to see, your facelift choices include a traditional facelift, limited incision facelift, or “S lift”.  Just a cheek lift or just a neck lift can be done. Two layered lifts are the rule. Every attempt is made to make the incisions as invisible as possible.  The incisions are placed to be concealed within the hairline, maintain the hairline pattern, and still allow hairstyles that are up or back.
Usually general anesthesia is used.   Surgery lasts about two to three hours. It is done on an outpatient basis.

What does it not do?

As a restorative surgery, a facelift should not change your fundamental appearance.  Although it turns back the aging process from 5 to 15 years, it cannot stop the effects of gravity and aging as time goes by.  A facelift can only be performed surgically.  Non-surgical rejuvenation treatments cannot achieve the same results, but may help delay the time at which a facelift becomes appropriate and complement the results of the surgery.

What can I expect?

Bruising and swelling is the norm. Pain is very mild to modest. One looks presentable to the public after 10 to 14 days.   One would require a caregiver for 2-3 days after surgery.  Take at least 2 weeks off from work and social activities.  Full activities and exercise is resumed after 6 weeks.
The goal is to look younger and refreshed not overdone and unnatural.
