Labial Reduction
Labial Reduction Surgery
Am I a good candidate for this surgery?
This surgery is female external genitalia surgery. It is a reduction in the protruberance and prominence of the inner labia (labia minora). The prominence is mostly a variant of normal anatomy, or a result of child bearing, sometimes injury. The prominence can sometimes cause symptoms like pain ,irritation, or discomfort especially in certain clothes. Most women now seek this surgery for cosmetic reasons as labial contours have become visible due to trimming and shaving practices.
What is the surgery?
Reduction of the labia minora is done by removing the redundant tissue and reapproximating the edges so the hiddden incisions are biased backwards, away from the area of the clitoris or vaginal introitus. The surgery itself is of relatively short duration, so it is often combined with other cosmetic surgeries.
What does the surgery not do?
The vaginal depth and width is not changed. The size shape or hooding of the clitoris is not changed.
What can I expect afterwards?
The tissues are delicate so bruising and swelling will happen to some degree to all patients. Recovery takes about a week. Abstinence from sexual intercourse is for 3 weeks.
